What is Integrative Manual Therapy or IMT?

Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT) involves a combination of techniques that address the sensory and motor systems of the body to improve how you move, feel and perform. The brain uses sensory information, like the sensation of stretch from a tendon, to create appropriate motor output (like movement of your knee). When the sensory information coming into the brain is corrupt, from a dysfunctional receptor, the brain can not produce effective, healthy movement. This can lead to chronic pain, weakness, poor performance and injury. IMT involves you becoming an important part of the process by utilization of 2-3 corrective exercises that you will do daily, between appointments. These exercises are carefully selected based on findings during the session, and are targeted specifically at your individual needs. This means that we can often create changes in 3-5 sessions rather than weeks or months.
