Fascia is a continuous network of connective tissue that runs throughout your entire body. Think of it as a three-dimensional web that surrounds and connects your muscles, muscle groups, bones, nerves, blood vessels, and organs.
Healthy fascia allows tissues to glide and move relative to one another. Factors such as injury, repetitive activity, prolonged postures, surgery, inflammation, or simply everyday movement can affect how tissues move and feel.
Because the fascial system is interconnected, restrictions in one area can sometimes influence movement and tension elsewhere in the body.
Your first appointment will typically begin with a conversation about your symptoms, injury history, activity level, goals, and what you are hoping to get out of treatment.
Your therapist may then assess your movement and areas of tension or restriction before developing a treatment approach.
During the hands-on portion of your appointment, your therapist may combine myofascial techniques with other massage therapy techniques, stretching, mobility work, or movement-based strategies.
Treatment is individualized — there is no single technique or treatment sequence that works for everyone.
Depending on your goals, your therapist may also provide recommendations for mobility exercises, stretching, strengthening, or other strategies to help you maintain the changes made during treatment and support your recovery between appointments.
At Coastal Sports & Wellness, we believe hands-on treatment should be specific to you, your body, and your goals.
Our team includes massage therapists with additional and advanced education in myofascial techniques and a wide range of therapeutic approaches. This allows your therapist to draw from different techniques rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all treatment.
Whether you’re an athlete looking to improve mobility, recovering from an injury, dealing with persistent muscle tension, or simply feeling like your body isn’t moving the way it should, myofascial techniques may be a valuable part of your treatment plan.
