Paediatric Osteopathy

Paediatric Osteopathy

Personalized osteopathic care for infants and children, supporting their growing bodies through every stage of development.

Gentle, hands-on osteopathic care for infants, toddlers and children.

Paediatric osteopathy uses gentle, hands-on techniques to assess movement, tension and how different areas of the body are functioning together. Treatments are adapted to the child’s age, stage of development and individual needs.

Our osteopathic manual practitioners can work with infants, toddlers and young children, including children experiencing concerns related to movement, tension, feeding, digestion and development.

Infants

Parents may consider paediatric osteopathy for infants experiencing:

  • Colic and excessive fussiness
  • Feeding difficulties
  • Difficulty settling or sleeping
  • Tension or restrictions following birth
  • Head preference or difficulty turning the head
  • Plagiocephaly/positional head shape concerns
  • Torticollis
  • Digestive discomfort or difficulty with bowel movements
  • General movement asymmetries
  • Babies recovering from a difficult or assisted birth

Osteopathic care may also be considered as part of a broader care plan for babies with tongue-tie or feeding difficulties. Osteopathy does not diagnose or release a tongue-tie, but gentle hands-on treatment may be used to address areas of tension and movement that may be contributing to feeding challenges. When appropriate, we can also work alongside other professionals involved in your baby’s care, such as lactation consultants, paediatricians and dentists.

Toddlers & Young Children

As children grow, their bodies are constantly changing. Paediatric osteopathy can provide gentle assessment and treatment for children experiencing:

  • Movement restrictions or asymmetries
  • Postural concerns
  • Muscle and joint tension
  • Coordination and movement challenges
  • Growing pains
  • Headaches
  • Digestive concerns
  • Recovery following injuries
  • Sports and activity-related aches and pains
  • General musculoskeletal concerns

Treatment is always adapted to the child and is gentle, age-appropriate and focused on making them feel comfortable.

A Collaborative Approach

Paediatric osteopathy can be used alongside other healthcare professionals when needed. If a concern requires assessment outside the scope of osteopathy, we can help direct you toward the appropriate healthcare provider.

If you have questions about whether paediatric osteopathy may be appropriate for your child, contact Coastal Sports & Wellness and we can help you determine whether an appointment may be a good place to start.
