How Concussion Management Works

Through collaboration between trained healthcare practitioners, educated coaches and trainers, and informed parents and athletes, our concussion management approach helps everyone involved in sport recognize the signs and symptoms of concussion and understand the appropriate steps to support an athlete’s safe return to sport.

What is a concussions?

A concussion is a type of mild traumatic brain injury that can occur when a blow, impact, or sudden movement causes the brain to move rapidly within the skull. This can temporarily affect how the brain functions and may result in a wide range of symptoms. These can include headache, pressure in the head, dizziness, nausea or vomiting, neck pain, balance difficulties, sensitivity to light or noise, changes in concentration or memory, fatigue, and mood changes. Loss of consciousness can occur but is not required for a concussion to happen.

Multimodal Baseline Testing

Multimodal Baseline Testing

Multimodal baseline testing combines a series of physical, cognitive, and functional assessments to establish an individual’s baseline when they are healthy. If a concussion occurs, these results can provide healthcare practitioners with useful information to help assess changes from the person’s normal function and support clinical decision-making.

Because concussion symptoms can improve before a person has fully recovered, having baseline information can be a valuable tool when determining an appropriate and individualized return-to-learn, return-to-work, and return-to-sport plan.
